Wow what a week, we have arrived in Vanuatu and have hit the ground running, feeling very grateful.
A very big thank you to all who have donated, our total thus far has reached over $36,000.
Above is a gallery of progress photos on how this money has turned a dream into a reality, for Mele Maat Village to have a proper kinder!
I have been so inspired by the comradery of the local expats that a group of us have decided to formalise our commitment to Vanuatu by setting up a charity here as we feel we want to continue to do this work. Our next project starts shortly so I will keep you updated.
There is also a special photo of teddy bears hanging on a washing line that I took while walking through the village. It certainly put a smile on my face!
Tomorrow we are finishing off the plumbing for toilet, water tank and new septic tank, final coat of paint on walls and then trims will be painted in a darker green. We are having doors made, tables and chairs built plus a new sand pit and swing set.
Next week, decorating the inside, delivery of 75kg of books, planting of garden beds and veggie patch for the kids.
All in time for the blessing and handing over to the community.
The kindergarten teacher ‘Emily’ has been away this week on a conference. We all cannot wait to see her face when she comes back on Friday to see the ‘once was a destruction/construction site’ into a kindergarten she never thought would ever be a reality.
Cheers
Helen
